Contents

[edit] How to find it

Startsee map:[3] with a double star Gamma Arietis. Then, go about 10°[Citation needed] east to 5.3-mag Pi Arietis. Pi is almost equaly distant from Gama Ari as is from Pleiades (to the ENE from Pi). From Pi, move about 30' WSW to DoDz 1see map:[1].

[edit] Appearance

The asterism is dominated by three 8.5- to 9-mag stars inside 9' area. Three more stars with magnitudes between 9.7 and 10.2 are in the center of this grouping. Most of the field stars are much dimmer, except maybe few stars to the west of the asterism.

Considering the magnitudes of the 3 brightest stars, and the size of this group, this asterism must be visible in any instrument that can show 9-mag stars, even at very low power (stars are more spread then the components of naked-eye double Epsilon Lyrae!).

Magnitue range od stars is 8.5 - 11.[4]

[edit] 8" telescopes and above

The size af a telescope doesn't play big role with this object. Telescopes in aperture range 8" to 12" will show compact and bright but poor grouping, cca 10' in diameter. Number of stars reported depends more on what stars observers consider to be members of a grouping than on visibility.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

[edit] Notes

A 15-mag galaxy MCG +03-08-011 is some 3' SEsee map:[11] from the easternmost of 3 brightest stars in the asterism.

There are no other reasonably bright DSO in 3° range. NGC 1036, a 13.3-mag galaxy, is some 3.5° to the NW.
